Similar to most places, this week truly marked the beginning of fall. The air has a new chill.
We spent last weekend in Colorado (more details and pictures to come), and came back to a pretty full week– catch-up studying and some evening meetings for Caleb.
This weekend we spent some time with friends (yes, friends in this new place!), and went apple picking!! Because of a freeze and then a drought, the apple harvest went haywire. We caught on to the brilliance of apple festivals and apple picking a little too late and missed most of the goodtimes. But, we caught the tail- end of harvest, and got to pick some Golden Delicious. And man, are they delicious!
Now being chased…
And put in a headlock… his bark is bigger than his bite.
Mama #2, my sweet mama in-law, passed on her fabulous Apple Bread recipe. And Voila!
1c. white sugar
1/2 c. butter
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 T sour milk or buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c raw apples chopped
1 T. cinnamom
Cream sugar and butter; add eggs. Beat together. Add flour and salt.
Mix soda in sour milk. Add to other ingredients and beat. Add vanilla and raw apples.
Put in greased loaf pan. Put on a topping of the following. ( I doubled what the recipe
originally said because we like the topping)
6 T. Brown sugar
4 T. flour
2 T. oatmeal
4 T. butter
2 tsp cinnamom
Dough will be thick. Bake 20 minutes at 325 and 40 minutes at 300.
Quite the treat.
It has been a sweet weekend… in more ways than one.
